Going Green: Artistry & Paint Transitions To Using Eco-Friendly Paints, Glazes, and Textural Products in Decorative Finishes

Washington, D.C., March 18, 2008 - Artistry & Paint, a decorative painting studio based in Washington, D.C., today announces its commitment to the use of eco-friendly paints, glazes, and Venetian plaster products for creating finishes. The studio is utlizing organic milk paint, clay-based Venetian Plasters, and latex paints with low or no V.O.C.'s. The low-emitting materials benefit both the tradespeople applying the finishes and the occupants of the space, decreasing the potential health problems of V.O.C. exposure (such as headaches, nausea, and dizziness).

"As our clients' awareness of indoor air pollution increases, they request the use of eco-friendly products, especially those with small children," said Paula Greenberg, artist and owner of Artistry & Paint.

Greenberg not only encourages eco-friendly products for creating decorative wall finishes, but is excited to promote green services to architects, designers, and homeowners. She recently interviewed Lina Quintero, owner of Elements of Design in Scottsdale, AZ to discuss eco-friendly interior design. Quintero, emphasizing her support of environmentally friendly practices explained, "When the personal benefits of using eco-friendly materials are clearly asserted to my clients, they are receptive to the idea of green design."

Artistry & Paint's decision to announce "Going Green" stems partly from interior design trends, but is primarily due to V.O.C.s (volatile organic compounds). Alkyd (oil resin) paints are no longer commonly used in home painting applications due to their high V.O.C. content - three times more than found in latex paints. The exposure to V.O.C.s makes itself known by the intense odor the paint creates during drying. The newest low V.O.C. latex paints are slightly more expensive than basic latex paints, but are still lower in cost than alkyd products. Greenberg explains, "We are fortunate to have access to high performing green products that will not compromise the quality or durability of our decorative finishes."

Founded in 2001, Artistry & Paint is a decorative painting firm located in Washington, D.C.. The studio caters to residential properties in the greater Washington, D.C. area, Las Vegas, NV, and Scottsdale, AZ. They provide eco-friendly fine finishes, Venetian plaster finishes, and hand-painted mural designs to architects, designers, and homeowners. Owned and operated by Paula Greenberg, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.
